Intimacy Coordinator for Film & TV.
I’m an Intimacy Coordinator for Film and TV, and my role is all about creating a space where vulnerability feels safe, respected, and true to the story. When a production involves nudity, simulated sex, tender moments, or anything that asks actors to dig deep, I’m there to make sure everyone—actors, directors, crew—feels supported.
An Intimacy Coordinator is a bridge—connecting actors, directors, and crew to ensure everyone’s on the same page, emotionally and physically. With nearly 20 years of film set experience and my expertise as a Certified Sex & Intimacy Coach, I bring a unique blend of practical know-how and heartfelt support to every project.
What does an Intimacy Coordinator do?
My role is to protect the actors bringing the story to life while supporting the production’s creative vision. Here’s how I do it:
Discussing Comfort Levels: I meet with actors and directors to review intimate scenes, ensuring everyone understands what’s involved and agrees on comfort and boundaries.
Supporting Actors Emotionally: I prepare actors for the emotional demands of these scenes, provide support during filming, and check in afterward to help them process the experience.
Protecting Boundaries: I identify each actor’s physical and emotional limits and ensure they’re respected throughout the shoot.
Creating a Safe Environment: I foster a setting where actors feel secure and supported, allowing them to focus on their performance.
Enforcing Guidelines: I ensure SAG-AFTRA nudity rules and closed-set protocols are followed for a professional and consistent process.
Choreographing Scenes: When requested, I design intimate or simulated sex scenes to align with the director’s vision while keeping them authentic and manageable.
Coordinating with Crew: I work with departments like wardrobe and makeup to maintain actors’ safety and privacy on set.
Engaging Early: I’m available during auditions to discuss expectations with actors, setting a clear foundation before filming begins.
How does it unfold?
This isn’t a one-and-done role—it’s a thread that runs through the whole process. It starts early, ideally at auditions, where I meet actors privately to chat about what these scenes might ask of them. It’s a chance to lay the groundwork—open, honest, and pressure-free.
In pre-production, I dig deeper. I talk with each actor about their boundaries—what’s okay, what’s not—and with the director about their vision. It’s like piecing together a puzzle where everyone’s voice matters. By the time we’re on set, we’ve built a shared understanding. During filming, I’m present—not hovering, but close—watching for cues, stepping in if something feels off, keeping the flow steady. Afterward, I stick around to debrief, making sure everyone’s good to move on.
What drives this work?
This role blends expertise with heart. A background in intimacy coaching reveals the emotional depth and bravery these scenes require, while years on set ensure the process stays smooth and human. The result? Directors see their vision come to life, actors keep their dignity, and the story gains authenticity.
The goal is bold, beautiful storytelling—where intimacy on screen feels as respectful behind the scenes as it appears in the final cut.
